New York Pics of the Day

These two pictures are cool because they show the same spot on Varick Street in New York in the morning and at night. This is a spot John passes everyday when he walks to the studio. When the Twin Towers were still standing, they could be seen straight ahead in the skyline. John would look at the sunlight reflecting off the Towers every morning from this spot.

The Love Boat

John sent me a care package last week which included the first 12 episodes of "The Love Boat" on DVD. I was so excited! I grew up watching this show on Saturday nights, especially on nights that I spent at my grandparent's house. Thank you so much for this awesome gift sweetie! I love you!

Savory Zucchini Tart

Last night I made a zucchini tart from the "Tart" cookbook that Kristina gave me for Christmas in 2004. This recipe called for grated yellow zucchini, but I used green zucchini instead and also added diced ham and monterrey jack cheese. It turned out absolutely delicious...surely not because of the 1 1/2 sticks of butter and 2/3 cup heavy cream that were also included. : )

Delicious Delights

The fruit tarts on the right are on display at Balthazar, a wonderful bistro in New York. John took this picture with his cell phone for me...he knows what I like!!!

This is a picture that John took inside the Metropolitan Opera House. He was at a special event and dessert was about to be served. I love the swirlyness of the staircase. It's like a flowing river of red velvet and white chocolate.

Lizzie picked these blackberries yesterday in the pasture across from her apartment complex in College Station. She texted this picture to me and laughed when I texted her back and told her I was going to put it on the blog. She said she knew I was going to do that.

I invented this salad the other day. I sliced purple and green grapes into discs and sectioned a navel orange. I drizzled a little honey onto the fruit and then tossed everything with fresh chopped mint. I've made this 3 or 4 times in the last week...it's delicious!

Shadowboxes at Shadowbriar

This is a miniature room that I made from a Capri Sun box. I made this last fall as an example when my fifth graders were doing a similar project. I spent an entire weekend making this and had the best time!
This spring my fifth graders are doing another shoebox project that I call "Artist in a Box." Guess which artist this fifth grader is doing... This student is doing a John Newsom box also. She was one of the students who actually got to meet John last year when he spent the day in my classroom as a "guest artist". Notice the books and pencil on his blue desk. This is the John Newsom box I made as an example for the assignment. It's not finished in this picture, so you can still see the uncovered cereal box This is the back of my John Newsom box...

New Kitchen Corner

I rearranged the little corner in my kitchen this morning. It wasn't that much different from how it is shown here. Basically, the table and ottoman were rearranged. I also rehung the panoramic picture of Rome.

Sexy Sweetie and his Sweet Studio

John is looking so handsome as he gets ready to go to the opera. I wish I was going with him!

On the right is a shot of John's studio. These paintings are still in the early stages, but you can already see how colorful and vibrant they are going to be. You can also see how big his paintings are!
